The Southwest PGA Championship/PPC Heads to Las Vegas

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The 67th edition of the Southwest PGA Championship/PPC is set for August 26-28 at Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev. Besides the honor of claiming the championship, the winner will secure a coveted spot in the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. Additionally, this tournament acts as a qualifier for the National PGA Professional Championship (PPC).

Jesse Mueller, who finished as the runner-up last year, is aiming to secure his third Section Championship title. He came just one stroke shy of Kim Paez in 2023, finishing with scores of 68-69-74 for a total of 211 (-5) at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Fort McDowell, Ariz. Paez will not be competing this year due to her participation in the LPGA Professionals Championship at Innisbrook Country Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.

With five events remaining in the season, Mueller, the PGA General Manager at Grand Canyon University Golf Course, leads the Southwest PGA Player of the Year standings by a slim margin of 44 points over Marty Jertson. The race for the title has essentially narrowed down to these two competitors. In 2023, Mueller earned his fourth consecutive Southwest PGA Player of the Year title, placing him fourth in the Section's history for most Player of the Year honors.

Jertson, PGA Vice President of Fitting & Performance at PING, recently claimed his first Southwest PGA Match Play title. This season he has also secured a runner-up finish in the Spring Masters Championship, won the Match Play event, and tied for fourth in the Arizona Open Championship.

This year’s Championship will be hosted at Anthem Country Club for the first time. Previously, the event was held in Las Vegas in 2020 at SouthShore Country Club in Henderson. This marks the fifth occasion in the tournament's 67-year history that the event is being held in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area.

The tournament features a field of 76 players, including 10 past champions: Dennis Downs (2015), Mark Gurnow (1994), Michael Hopper (2022, 2018, 2014), Jertson (2019), Mueller (2020, 2017), Paul Nolen (1995), Tony Rohlik (2005), Jon Stanley (2011), Dean Vomacka (2009, 2008), and Jeff Yurkiewicz (2002).

The first and second rounds will take place on Monday and Tuesday, August 26-27, with tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m. off both No. 1 and No. 10. After 36 holes, the field will be reduced to the top 33 players plus ties for the final round on Wednesday, August 28.

The winner of the 67th Southwest PGA Championship will earn a spot in the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, scheduled for February 6-9, 2025, at TPC Scottsdale (Ariz.). Additionally, the top five finishers, along with the Southwest PGA Player of the Year, will qualify for the 2025 PGA Professional Championship, set for April 27-30, 2025, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
