NATIONAL WOMEN'S GOLF MONTH

Marvol Barnard, PGA
Director of Instruction
Haven Golf Club
LPGA Professionals President (2019-Present)

How did you get into golf?
When my husband retired and we began "snowbirding" to Arizona, he thought golf would be fun to try. We took a few lessons to start - I became hooked (and crazed and obsessed) and he didn't!

Who would you identify as your mentor(s) and/or individual(s) you credit for your passion for golf and the industry?
My first instructor and mentor was Jane Chanik, PGA. She introduced me to the game in such a wonderful way, and I credit her for starting this wonderful journey and career. My passion for the industry has come through my many friendships in the PGA and LPGA, and I have so many mentors and guides I can't even begin to list them all.

Are there any obstacles you have had to overcome during your journey in the golf industry?
I think not having grown up in the game, and taking it up rather late (38) was a bit of an obstacle. To learn to teach required learning the swing inside and out, taking every class and seminar I could, playing and practicing as much as possible in order to join the ranks of the PGA and LPGA. I've always seen obstacles as opportunities, however, and this passion and drive to learn and succeed has led to the best career I could ever imagine.

What would be your message to others like yourself, who are on the fence when considering a career in the golf?
Jump in! It's an incredible career path, and you will meet the most amazing people along the way. Call me and I will talk you right into it!

What would be your dream foursome?
I would love to play with Steph Curry (I love his passion for growing the game), Juli Inkster, and my friend Liz Cooper, PGA/LPGA. We would have a blast.
